The titan of Renaissance art, sculpture and architecture, Florence holds a unique spot as one of the most influential cities on modern western culture and is regarded as the capital of the Tuscany region.
It’s strongly advised to tour the Uffizi gallery, a Renaissance showpiece and boasting collections from Boticelli, Da Vinci and Raphael. The building itself is a beautifully designed monument and something to gaze at in addition to what’s inside.
If you mention you’re going to Florence to someone who has been there, it’s likely they’ll say that you’ll have to see the Florence Cathedral (called The Duomo). Dating back to the 15th Century it towers over the Florentine landscape, the iconic ‘dome’ is instantly recognisable and the experience has been highly recommended.
Florence also stands out for its natural beauty. If you make your way to the centre of the city you’ll discover a hidden gem – the Bardini Gardens. A well maintained natural beauty blended with signature monuments, staircases and design make this a wonder to stroll through. Other gardens include the Iris and Rose Garden and the Boboli Garden, which also doubles as a fantastic open-air museum.
There’s plenty of guided tours to really enrich your visit, not to mention incredible restaurants serving traditional food (and amazing wine!).
There's so much to do, tranquil places to visit and a buzzing atmosphere to enjoy, the hard part will be fitting it all in!
